About Robyn Spoon

At the age of 27, I started my first successful business— a real estate company, which is still active today. I bring my versatile background, including: employee development, small business management, sales, consulting, training, teaching methodologies and public speaking to my work with students.  Developing people to reach their potential is at the core of my work.  Although the real estate industry is fascinating, I chose to return to my roots working with young people in 2011. Having earned an undergraduate degree in education, I decided to combine my understanding of career development and education to form College Planning Services, focusing my efforts on developing future youth leaders and assisting them through the college application process.

I believe in the uniqueness of the students and the families I work with. For each family, the college admissions process is a personal one. It is important for the student to begin the process understanding who they are and what is important to them. Figuring that out can take many forms, but often I begin by using the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory to help the student better understand their motivations and preferences. Once we have a clear understanding of what we are looking for, I work with the family and student to develop an appropriate college list and a plan to tackle the admissions process. My process always involves a lot of encouragement, plenty of discussions, formal assessments, customized college review forms (I call these “Scavenger Hunts” with my students), resume development, essay work, and whatever else is needed for each student.

I have been fortunate to work with hundreds of young people in the college admissions process. Each year I look forward to the new students entering my office to begin this process. It is a privilege to walk through this journey with my families.
