High School Sophomores

Prior to the start of sophomore year, it is important to take the time to reevaluate the 4 year plan based on the challenges and successes of freshman year.  A meeting will take place prior to the start of the year and each quarter throughout the sophomore year to assess the goals for sophomore year.  By the end of sophomore year, we will use the MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) along with the Strong Interest Inventory to assess career interests and possibilities.  The goal is to engage the student in the process and help them begin to understand the choices they will have.  Job shadows, extra-curricular activities, volunteer opportunities, summer experiences and more will be discussed.  We will continue to discuss ways to help the student have healthy relationships with their teachers and counselor and how to self-advocate at school.  A custom college entrance exam schedule will be created for the student and we will begin to evaluate testing strengths and weaknesses.  The student will be engaged in tracking activities for college during this time as well.  The student will visit a couple of campuses to begin to understand the differences in types of schools.  Information about requirements for possible honors in the junior and senior year will be discussed to keep the student on track towards those goals as well.
